Safe Water is Imperative to Family Safety!

Safe Water is Paramount to Family Safety!

What’s the best investment you can make? Safe Water!

Without safe water, an individual can survive three days or a little longer. Water is a resource needed by each and every person throughout the world, and a large portion of those people are experiencing a crisis. Their only option is drinking unclean water which eventually takes the lives of both children and adults.

Here in the United States we read about these third world countries and declare how lucky we are to have an ample supply of safe water which, in most cases (we think), Watavailable by simply turning on a faucet. If we were more informed by our government and municipal water facilities, we would know that tap water in the United States made 19.5 million people sick last year… some with killer outcomes such as cancer and brain dysfunctions.

What Are The Dangers?

Water facilities provide charts each year to tell us what’s in our water. Although they get a passing grade for filtering our water, it should be noted that much of the information provided in the reports is not totally accurate. The number of pathogens and carcinogens have grown over the last 10 years, without being added to the reports of water facilities. Many people read the reports and conclude they are drinking safe, clean water.

So… what is in our water which should concern us? See Natural Living Ideas for “9 Dangers Lurking in our Tap Water.” Natural Living Ideas lists the dangers of fluoride, chlorine, arsenic, lead, radioactive elements, toxic organic compounds, pharmaceutical drugs, bromates and chromium.

It is critical for you and your family to know and understand the dangers which lie in one simple glass of tap water, and the above article is a great place to start.

Where Do These Dangers Come From?

Municipal Water Facilities: The best these facilities can do is partially eliminate the things that were singled out 10 years ago as being dangerous. Over the past decade, nothing new has been added to their search criteria. Chlorine, used to purify water is still used; however, new studies have shown that when we drink chlorinated water, the chlorine ultimately can kill the “good bacteria” in our stomachs.

Where does your water come from? Is it from a lake, ground water, reservoir or a river. When Flint, Michigan, changed it’s water source from Detroit’s municipal water supply to the Flint River, the outcome was major health problems from E.coli and Legionnaires disease. Would you be willing to dip a cup into that water source and drink it? I sure wouldn’t take that risk!

Infrastructure: Much, if not most, of our water enters our houses through lead pipes, many of which are over 100 years old. There is, and will continue to be, a significant amount of lead entering our tap water. These lead pipes need to be replaced by communities across the nation, many of which cannot afford to replace them, except when one springs a leak.

Lead has a number of negative effects on the body, once it gets in to the blood stream. Lead is toxic, and it takes a heavy toll on children’s developing brains, with many of the effects being irreversible.

Weather and Drought: We associate drought with third world countries in Africa, South America and other third-world areas, and we feel fortunate to live in America where water seems to be abundant and inexpensive. We should not be so complacent! Water supplies are dwindling and the contamination of our water sources is already determining a water shortage for the United States.

The cost of overhauling a local water facility to filter out the newly identified contaminates will be astronomical when coupled with the cost of replacing lead pipes in the community. It no wonder that there are numerous articles calling water the “Gold Standard.”

Companies and Politics: The dangers of contaminated water are well known to politicians and to major companies responsible for much of the runoff and dumping into water resources.

State and National politicians are aware of the cost of cleaning up America’s water, but typically cannot budget enough monies to make their communities safe. Consider also the involvement of lobbies and big business funds to get these same politicians reelected to their powerful positions.

Natural Disasters and Terrorism: As a general rule, flooding and heavy rain accumulation tends to compromise our safe water resources with runoff. The runoff pollutes the water resource and taxes the water facility’s ability to make the water safe for a period of time.

Water resources throughout the United States are extremely vulnerable. Because of the open availability of water resources and facilities, our water is an available target for terrorists.

Side NOTE: More and more people are drinking water from plastic bottles, purchased at the stores. Most people think they are buying safe water, but research and published reports warn of serious dangers. Bottlers of water have no regulations governing where their water comes from, and no testing for contaminates. In other words, bottled water is no better than your tap water (maybe less so), and it could come from tap water, from a hose, water from a lake, river, pond or reservoir. Filling a metal drinking container from your kitchen faucet is possibly safer and much less expensive.

How To Provide Safe Water to Your Home

Cleaning up the water coming into your home is not an easy task. There are, however, things that can be done to clean the water once it arrives at your home. A variety of water filters are for sale and, of course, they are made to sound like the solution to all of your water problems.

Many filtration methods are advertised. Only a few can truly make your water 99.999% pure and, although typically more expensive than water pitchers, are far more able to provide clear safe water.

Also not mentioned in the article are the dangers of showering with contaminated water, which can enter your system through your skin. The answer to that is Lowes or Home Depot for a shower filter.

I’m going to refrain from recommending any specific filter until next month. The reason is… I recently met with a company that has what I believe is better than its competition and yet is comparably priced. I am especially interested in the assertion that it produces enough safe water for a family of 4 each day, needs no filter replacement, is guaranteed for 10 years and provides pure safe water.

Water, Water, Everywhere… But Not a Drop to Drink!

Don’t put off preparing for a disaster or taking action to meet your need for clean, safe water. Too many acts of nature or of mankind can make your need for water a desperate situation.

Invest in the best you can afford and upgrade from there, as needed. Experience has shown us our leaders are not considering our individual needs for uncontaminated safe water for ourselves and our households… but there’s nothing stopping us from meeting those needs in every way possible.
